Migrants, the courage of Weber (EPP) which beats France and Germany

Manfred Weber and Antonio Tajani

The President of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, has taken a position on the issue of migrants that supports the requests of the Meloni government. The EPP leader criticized both France, inviting it to “avoid blackmail”, and “his” Germany, which must change NGOs politics.

“Unilateral and uncoordinated actions – he said – such as those of the German NGO ships transporting migrants to Italian ports, do not bring the agreement on immigration reform closer. We can reduce illegal immigration only if we work together. All countries must make an effort to work on the adoption of the pact on Migration.”

Praise instead for Italy: “Italy is having a very rational approach, but we cannot let migrants go around Europe without screening.”

A shareable position, worthy of a truly European leader. But also a success for Antonio Tajani, leader of Forza Italia and esteemed member of the EPP, who Weber recognized as having been fundamental for the negotiations between the EU and Tunisia.
